2017 is already shaping up to be a HUGE year in gaming! After the release of the critically acclaimed horror game, Resident Evil 7, I have to say, things are looking pretty good for us gamers right now! Next up, we have For Honor, which is scheduled to be released on February 14 and I’m super excited for this game. For those of you who don’t know about this game yet ( and if you haven’t, shame on you!) I’ll give you the gist of it.
For Honor is set in a medieval time period in which three factions face off against each other in an all out battle for territory and power. Sound awesome already doesn’t it? Players will have the opportunity to choose from one of 3 factions, either Samurai, Knights, or Vikings. Within each of the three factions, players have their pick of one of four different fighters, equipped with their own skills and abilities. From what I’ve seen so far, it seems like all the different classes are unique in their own fighting styles. When dealing with a game like this, you would expect to see doppelgängers within the different factions but that may not be the case with this game.
I’ve already watched a 10 minute video of the single player campaign, and I must say, I’m impressed! Seeing the unique combat system in action really amped up my excitement even more. During the mission, which takes place toward the middle of the game, the player is using a berserker as he leads his fellow Vikings to a raid on land inhabited by Samurais. You smash your ship into the island and get straight down to business. The berserker is the epitome of gritty (Ha! See what I did there?), he’s essentially what you think of when you picture a viking. He towers over all his opponents and allies and runs straight to the center of the battlefield equipped with a huge battle axe. With each swing he takes out his opponents with brute force and rage. Every so often, you’ll run into an enemy who is an even match in both size and skill, and this is where the unique combat system is showcased. Both warriors try to predict the other’s swing so they can use a perfectly timed block and set their opponent off balance, leading to a devastating blow. Eventually you make your way through the keep and duke it out against a boss. After a high stakes battle between two great warriors, the viking prevails and the mission is complete.
Now, imagine a battle like that taking place against other REAL players. That’s what Ubisoft is promising with the release of For Honor. In the multiplayer mode, players will get to participate in five different game modes; dominion, brawl, elimination, skirmish, and duel. So it sounds like theres gonna be a lot of variety (did I mention the campaign is co-op? )Still unsure if you should get For Honor? Download the open beta that’s set to begin on February 9. Enjoy hacking and slashing your way through your opponents, and maybe I’ll see you all on the battlefield, hopefully you won’t be stuck on the end of my axe!
