State of Decay 2 is a post-apocalyptic, zombie survival horror game in which the player takes control of a handful of survivors and dictates how they live their lives by switching between characters at will at almost any moment. Roughly 12 months after the events in the first game, State of Decay 2 will be enhanced with a ton of new features, while also gaining the benefit of being developed for the Xbox one, which will mean a much smoother and more polished game, and also highly enhanced graphics.
If you haven’t played the first State of Decay, I suggest you turn on your Xbox and download it. I’ve spent countless hours with this game, and it is so easy to get lost in the huge open-world while you go out and scavenge for supplies to help keep your group happy. State of Decay puts you in the shoes of a true leader who has to keep all aspects of survival in mind. And I do mean ALL ASPECTS! You’ll have to juggle between keeping the members of your group happy by making sure you have a sufficient amount of food, water, and medicine and also make sure their morale stays positive by settling any feuds that may take place while your group members stay together, and if that means kicking out a member who is causing trouble, so be it. This is what really makes State of Decay so Special, all the little possible scenarios make you really feel like you’re taking on the role of a leader who has to make the difficult decisions for the overall well-being of the group.
One thing I always felt was missing in the first State of Decay was the option to play with friends. I always imagined how fun it would be to run around with friends and slaughter hordes of zombies together. Now, we will all be able to experience what that will be like because State of Decay 2 is adding 4 player co-op to the game. With the shot of a single flare into the sky, players will be able to invite others into their game world so they can accompany each other during their travels.
Players who opt out to join others during their playthrough will be given rewards for their efforts but, it’s not risk-free, just like in the single-player campaign, if you die in a friend’s world, you lose that character for good!
Even More Scenarios
In the first State of Decay, there were many things that could cause harm to your group, whether it be a dispute between two survivors or a lack of medicine in the outpost, there’s plenty to keep you on your toes. State of Decay 2 will add even more scenarios to the list. One example of this is the added possibility of having a snoring survivor to the group. Yes, I said a snoring survivor. This could cause the morale of other group members to drop from lack of sleep and ultimately affect your overall development of your outpost. You could find a way to cope with the snoring, kick him out, or even kill him, either way, you’re in control. With this small example, it’s obvious that there are going to be plenty of possibilities to keep things interesting.
State of Decay 2 will feature a map that is 3x the size of the first one. This will make for much more exploration and also keeps things fresh for you and your friends when exploring the zombie filled game world.
State of Decay was an unexpected success when it released back in 2013 and since then we have all come to realize that people LOVE zombie games. With that being said, since the first State of Decay was so successful, you can be sure that Microsoft and Xbox will invest a lot more money and time into Undead Labs to create an even better, more polished game!
Undead Labs founder, Jeff Strain, promises that State of Decay 2 will be even better than the first, which isn’t all that common in sequels nowadays. From what I’ve heard so far, State of Decay 2 will succeed its predecessor in every way! State of Decay 2 is set to release in the spring of 2018.
